About the Item

Foundational Study No. 24(C) is a definitive structural exploration within the Rebecca Wing Sze Lam Atelier. As the architectural anchor of the F.S. 24 sequence, this study distills the expressive energy of the series into a deliberate meditation on "Tectonic Shards" and "Architectural Mass." Presented with a focus on conservation and technical mastery, the work highlights the weight and permanence of the conceptual process. Executed on hand-torn, heavy-weight archival paper, it features skeletal gestural markings in warm ochre, punctuated by the artist’s handwritten process notes. The "Monolithic" Presentation "While the study itself is an intimate 12.5cm x 17.5cm artifact, to elevate this intimate study into a significant architectural statement, the work is presented in a bespoke A2-sized Black Tasmanian Oak Shadow Box. By utilizing an expansive field of negative space, the mounting creates a sophisticated "specimen" effect that forces the viewer to engage with the raw, tactile details of the miniature. Bespoke Museum Glazing Each order is finished with premium non-reflective Museum Archival Glass, custom-cut upon purchase. This specialized glazing is virtually invisible and offers maximum UV protection, ensuring the raw textures and ink density remain preserved while allowing the work to be viewed without interference or glare. Technical Mastery & Conservation The high-density cellulose substrate is professionally mounted to museum standards. As a featured artist on international streaming platforms and national television, Lam’s foundational studies are rare, primary records of her creative evolution. Each work includes a bespoke Certificate of Authenticity and is delivered in a handcrafted wooden studio crate. Technical Specifications Medium: Mixed Media (Ochre pigment, graphite, and archival ink) on hand-torn archival paper. Glazing: Bespoke Museum Glass (Anti-reflective, 99% UV protection). Dimensions: 12.5cm x 17.5cm (Art size). Conservation: Full archival-grade materials and sealing. Signature: Authenticated with the artist’s signature red seal. Series: Part III of the F.S. 24 conceptual sequence.

Coloured inks and pastel on paper Signed Gestural abstraction Outsider art Artist’s statement : "Painting, for me, is an expressive endeavor in which one depicts the evolution of the various facets of the artistic self. There is, on each canvas, a tension where violence and stillness naturally coexist. By playing with different materials, I seek to establish a sort of unexpected dialogue between these states, and aspire to express this tension through profusion of color. The canvas is the stage that allows me to unite narration with the action of painting the fantastic—even the outrageous---and the everyday. I develop scenarios borrowed from the imagination, which join fantasy, even fables, with the everyday. Pulling threads from each domain, I bring together the mythical and the quotidian, so that the worlds of reality and fantasy merge. I rely on “creatures,” improbable little characters that could exist in some other realm or dimension. They materialize, issuing forth from the surprising, unbelievable and wondrous world of childhood. Human or animal, both find themselves entangled in inextricable and melancholic situations. These inextricable situations create distance; the humor comes through this breach. It is the absurdity of their predicaments that manifests the humor in the work. In each of my paintings, the sentiments are heightened by an intentional, provocative tone that transforms the work. An Otherness is attributed to objects; objects become personified, and by their very presence, they become witnesses or guinea pigs torn between and bound to their dilemma. The titles of my paintings, whether invented or quotations taken out of context, come from literature, theater, or song lyrics. Accident and chance are often major actors in my work.” Emmanuelle Messika BIOGRAPHY : Emmanuelle Messika was born in France in 1979. She works and lives in Paris.
