About the Item

"HOPE" is an original wall-hanging sculpture by Charles Clary as part of the artist's popular "Text-i-monial" series. To create the artwork, Clary hand cuts a series of individual sheets of paper that he then layers and spaces to create the dimensionality of the piece. The layers are inset into a ‘gallery cradle’ style panel with wood sides that is finished with patterned wallpaper on archival mat board on the front. The final piece measures 10 inches in height by 12 inches in width by 2.5 inches in depth. The artwork is signed by the artist en verso. Charles Clary was born in 1980 in Morristown, Tennessee. He received his BFA in painting with honors from Middle Tennessee State University and his MFA in painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design. He has shown in exhibitions at SPRING/BREAK Art Show New York, SCOPE Art Miami Beach, Galerie Evolution-Pierre Cardin in Paris, France, The Netherlands’ CODA Museum Paper Biennial in 2021, Art of Paper Fair in New York City, and many other international, national, and regional juried, group, solo, and museum exhibitions. Charles has exhibited regionally, nationally, and internationally in numerous solo and group shows, is represented by Paradigm Gallery + Studio in Philadelphia, R02 Gallery in Dallas, Texas, and Patrajdas Contemporary Gallery in Ogden, Utah. Clary currently lives and works in Conway, South Carolina, where he is an Associate Professor of Studio Art and Foundations Coordinator at Coastal Carolina University. Clary has been featured in numerous print and Internet interviews including, Create! Magazine, PICKCHUR Magazine, Candyfloss Magazine, This is Colossal, WIRED magazine (US and UK), Hi-Fructose, Beautiful Decay, Bluecanvas Magazine, and This Is Colossal. He has also been featured in publications including 500 Paper Objects, Paper Works, Paper Art, Papercraft 2, PUSH: Paper, and The New Twenties. Clary won Top Prize at the 2016 ArtFields Competition in Lake City, SC, and in 2019 he won both People’s Choice Award for 2D and the Merit Prize at ArtFields.

Mixed-Media Wall Sculpture foam clay, acrylic & enamel on wood. "In a While"

Mixed-Media Wall Sculpture foam clay, acrylic & enamel on wood. "In a While"

By Vera Vizzi

Located in FISTERRA, ES

IN A WHILE (2025) is a small-scale, wall-mounted mixed-media sculpture by Vera Vizzi that transforms a familiar domestic object into a sculptural encounter. Hand-modeled in foam clay and applied onto a compact wooden block (25 x 9 x 10 cm), the work is finished with layered acrylic paint and enamel marker decoration along the extruded “tube” form. The piece foregrounds tactile surface, color contrast (white base with red/yellow graphic motifs) and a vertical, relief-like silhouette that reads equally as objet d’art or a focused accent on a gallery wall. Conceptually the work frames an everyday action — squeezing a tube — as a compressed temporal event: small gestures that compress time and meaning. Keywords for search and contextualisation: mixed media on wood, foam clay sculpture, enamel and acrylic, wall sculpture, small contemporary sculpture...
