Welch ~ a full time artist who also paints"and sculpts, considers his enamels a fine arts medium. He works on flat copper, firing it over and over again for desired effects, experimenting in oxides and tones. He said he doesn't have a fully formed idea when he starts, but adds colors and textures as the work progresses, building the design.
