About the Item

This collage of gouache and mixed materials combines handmade paper, book cover, paint and glass. Turkish lettering appears on the glass in the traditional “under glass” technique, taken from the diary of the artist Murat Morova. The shaded text is subtly visible on the paper below. Morova, born in Istanbul in 1954, is known for his profound works that deal with the tension between Orient and Occident and the relationship between the inner and outer world. His works have been exhibited internationally, including in Paris, Tokyo and Buenos Aires. He deliberately uses unconventional materials such as nylon, tar and fiberglass. In addition to his artistic work, Morova is also considered a prominent voice in the Turkish human rights discourse.
