About the Item

This amazing sculpture figures a peacock making the wheel. Each feather is made of a slice of transparent agate, soldered with brass to the rest of the wheel. The agate wheel is melded on a wheel of brass feathers, and maintained on the back with a second wheel of brass feathers. The brass used for the body is more silverish than the brass used for feathers. This is not a lamp, but because of the transparency of the agate feathers illumination from the light provides an astounding effect. We suggest exposing the piece back to a window to profit both from this effect, with natural light passing through feathers, and from the front look of the peacock. This piece is in very good condition. The tarnish patina has not been removed because many antique collectors value it. There is some looseness between the wheels, the artwork should be carried by the neck and pedestal. The crest is made of plated brass on a flexible metal, and is crackled at the base of the crest feathers, likely because they have been bend multiple times. The black marble pedestal measures 20 cm × 11.4 cm × 2 cm, and the whole piece is 41 cm high, 45.5 cm wide and 20 cm deep. It is quite heavy, probably about 10 kg. The agate slices are between 0.5 and 0.8 cm thick. Although this work is not signed, it is easily attributable to Willy Daro because he made this model into a small series, each piece being unique by their agate feathers (the pedestal marble color may also differ). Willy Daro is a Belgian designer, mainly known for his lamps and tables and for his use of agates with brass. His works may sometimes be confused with works from Henri Fernandez, a French designer from the same period.
