About the Item

A fresh and intriguing composition that keeps you looking at it. The composition is composed of summer greens, whites, blues and lavenders and also conveys figures and movement. Holty at this interesting date of the late 1950's is deep in abstraction but keeping slight references to human form. He is using a layered and approach to his paint where you the viewer feel you are peeking through layers of colors to air and space beyond. It also has a playfulness and the same sort of primitive conveyance we see in the work of Jean Dubuffet where shapes suggest human interaction. Holty is an important American Abstractionist and he is credited with moving abstraction in America from cubism through its various iterations and explorations. He was president of the American Abstract Artist's Group in New York City and often considered the intellectual spokesman with artists in the avant-garde in general. This painting is signed by him on the verso and dated. The canvas measures 69 x 54 inches so our listed size is the framed dimension. It has a high quality 22 karat silvered float frame - that makes the work elegant. A painting like this is for the interior that is looking to be individualistic and different! It would be a focal point and a work that creates an airy and artistic feel within the environment.
