About the Item

This is an oil painting in gradations of blues, greens and turquoise with red and gold undertones by professional artist Keith Breitfeller. Breitfeller’s peaceful, meditative color studies begin with a bright, dynamic under-painting in acrylic, which can only be glimpsed or imagined through a soft veil of color in subtle gradations of shade and intensity. Together, these layers create a tightly interlocked and balanced composition, where punctuations of contrasting color pop in syncopated rhythm against a regularized grid of heavily applied oil paint. This impasto (thick brushwork) lends an emphatic dimensionality to Breitfeller’s otherwise flat canvas. The result is a complex structure that that not only intellectually explores texture, color, and contrast, but also invites an emotional response with its gentle palette and visual tranquility. As Adeaner writing for "tackad" describes, “Keith Breitfeller makes quiet paintings, works that lure you with their whispers of serenity. Everyone loves a good mystery, and these do a good job of keeping their secrets.” Signed, titled, and dated on the back. Wired and ready to hang. Canvas is neatly wrapped around stretcher bars so framing is optional. "My work has been influenced by the impressionist, modernist and pointillist. I use figure to ground relationships to deliberately confuse the subject matter, allowing the viewer to find, him or herself, in the artwork. The use of small individual brush strokes and the placement of one color against the next gives an ever changing color palette to the piece. The theme of my painting has been a search for stillness, a form of mediative calm. Painting is my escape from a world of too much noise and information. It’s a way to step away from those inner dialogues that keep us from being truly calm. My work is an oasis away from the complexities of modern living where one can reflect on what is essential." - Keith Breitfeller Keith R. Breitfeller was born and raised in Catasauqua, a small town in eastern Pennsylvania, in 1952. He proceeded to attend Kutztown college, studied with New York Artist Marion Pinto. He also studied at the Barnstone Studio. He now resides in Philadelphia, where his work was shown at Sande Webster Gallery, Vox Populi, Finer Things Gallery in Tennessee, and the Adrian Falcon Gallery in Texas and Lyman Eyer in Massachusetts. His work is included in many private and corporate collections in Washington DC., New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York. Keith has also become an avid tango dancer over the last 10 years. Keith’s work has been influenced by the impressionist, modernist and pointillist. He uses figure to ground relationships to deliberately confuse the subject matter, allowing the viewer to find, him or herself, in the artwork. His aim is to provide a place of peace and contemplation to the viewer.
