Patrick Boudon (1944–2019), Abstract Composition, École de Paris, 1963 Medium: oil on canvas. Signed in cursive with red letters and dated 1963. Dimensions: 65 × 54 cm. Created in 1963, this work belongs to the early phase of Patrick Boudon’s artistic exploration, when the young artist was experimenting with a style that was still strongly gestural but already focused on the construction of form. The work is part of the new Parisian painting movement of the early 1960s, which encompassed Expressionism, Cubism, and the experiments of the CoBrA group. Large, raised brushstrokes, rich in impasto, create a composition that conveys extraordinary energy, in which Boudon seems to operate on the boundary between figuration and abstraction. From the interweaving of the marks, an anthropomorphic presence emerges—almost a head or a mask—without ever being fully defined. Patrick Boudon was born in Florac (Lozère) in 1944. He enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Paris in 1962 and completed his studies there in 1965. His first solo exhibition took place as early as 1963 at the Galerie Raymond Duncan in Paris. Throughout his career, he exhibited in France and abroad, including at the Mafalda Davis Gallery in New York, the Galleria Salsomaggiore in Italy, and the Museum of Feira de Santana in Brazil. In the 1970s, he founded GAMP (Galeries-Ateliers Modernes de Paris), a meeting place and workspace for artists from various disciplines. After meeting Pablo Picasso, his artistic exploration gradually shifted toward a personal style of figurative art, characterized by large faces, emphasized hands, and intense expressive power. A significant portion of his body of work was destroyed in a fire at his studio. Patrick Boudon died in Montmartre in 2019, leaving behind a significant legacy in French painting of the second half of the 20th century.

Pierre Coquet – Abstract Composition Reference number A217 Framed with a natural oak floated frame 67 x 54 cm frame included (62 x 49 cm without frame) This work is painted with oil on a paper that is mounted on a board and placed in a made to measure wood strectcher. Stamp of the signature in the bottom right Pierre was very sensitive to abstract paintings. He did a lot of abstract works melting colors and shapes in different atmosphere and style. Nevertheless he could come back to figuration and again to abstraction with no precise period of time. Abstract paintings by Pierre Coquet represent a large part of his production. The constant search for balance between shapes and colors as well as his passion for Nicolas de Staël, André Lanskoy, Alfred Mannessier… takes him on different paths from what we know of him. His way of painting is strong and thoughtful, the lines stretch out and the harmonious touches, applied with sobriety, reveal a great sense of color. Provenance : Workshop of the artist (stamped and numbered on the back) Pierre Coquet (1926-2021) is a French painter who was born in Limas near Lyon, France. He entered the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Lyon in 1942 and followed the teaching of Antoine Chartres, Henri Vielly and René Chancrin. He won a prize in 1945 and joined a movement that wanted to be outside of any school whose name ends with “ism”, (like impressionism, cubism…) between figuration and the renaissance of Abstract Art, bringing together young generations under thirty and eager not to submit to any technique.
