Raúl Álvarez (Madrid, 1982) is a Spanish contemporary painter who works within the language of figurative realism. His practice combines technical precision and close observation with an expressive approach that moves beyond faithful representation, using light, colour, texture and composition to create images with a strong psychological and emotional presence.
Although not exclusively, his work frequently focuses on the human figure and its relationship with water. Both become vehicles for exploring identity, vulnerability, introspection and transformation. Water also interests him for the pictorial challenges posed by its movement, transparency, reflections and distortions, as well as for its symbolic capacity to evoke contrasting emotional states.
Álvarez has presented numerous solo exhibitions across Spain and participated in Art Madrid, Hybrid Art Fair and Room Art Fair Madrid. His distinctions include First Prize at the X Bienal de Pintura Eixo Atlántico, the Audience Award at the XXXIII Muestra de Arte Joven de La Rioja and finalist recognition at the Jackson’s Open Art Prize in London. His work is held in institutional, corporate and private collections internationally.
