About the Item

As a whole, these paintings continue my exploration of building forms through intuitive, responsive painting. It has been five years since my first show at SEFA Hudson, and I’m thrilled to see the evolution of the work. Each contains new experiments in paint application and expands my abstract visual language. I continue to be influenced and inspired by sculptors like Thaddeus Mosley, Isamu Noguchi, and painters like Jonas Wood and Randy Wray. I do not view these purely as abstract compositions, but as structures with soul, sentience, and permanence. They are translations, existing somewhere between the familiar and the foreign. A frequent question I am asked during studio visits is: what is your work about? Instead of answering, I have started to ask in response, “tell me what you see, tell me what you feel”. When I hear a sonata that moves me, my first reaction is not, “what was that about?” It is simply to be captured, to be lost in the transcendent quality of the universal experience of beauty. This is what I am reaching for in my paintings. I hope that they would exist in the world of sonatas, in the world of poetry and jazz, in the realm of mystery and delight.
