About the Item

Morgan Cameron’s (US based) “Break From Flight” is an oil painting on panel that depicts a bird perched on a branch with fruit. This painting is unframed, but ready to hang. About the artist: I am an oil painter based out of Southern Maine. My subject matter focuses mainly on animals and capturing a sense of movement and narrative through the captivating style of disrupted-realism. Living creatures are constantly moving, especially animals and I strive to capture that movement in my art. This may be why I am drawn to looser forms and brushwork in paintings. It is less precise and leaves room for improvisation during the creation process and makes gestures of ideas that the viewer can decipher as they wish. Life moves and thrives in unpredictable ways while taking on a rhythm of its own and I strive to express this in my artwork. I aim to assist the subject with the appearance of movement and life and to meld the forms to create something that feels united throughout the painting as a whole. I use several different tools to achieve this and I’m constantly trying to develop all their uses and possibilities, many of which are discovered during creation process itself. I was born and raised in the small rural town of Dover-Foxcroft, ME. My family had a farm with many animals and lots of land and I spent most of my time outside with my pony and dogs or exploring the woods on foot. I have always found a closeness with animals and surrounding myself them nourishes my soul and inspires my artwork. I loved riding both Western and Dressage and I would draw my horses constantly. Although my range of subject matter has expanded, equines still remain one of my favorites. I have a passion for all animals and since I was young I learned to observe their beautiful anatomy and movements and how to capture their essence on paper. Eventually I would discover painting and this sent me on the path I'm still on today. I now live in Gray, ME with my husband and our dog. My husband is a Pianist/Composer and we’ve spent our years traveling and growing artistically together. This has given me the chance to explore new things and gain new, fresh inspiration for my art time and time again as well as share it everywhere we have lived, settling at last in our home-state of Maine. I have shown my artwork across the country and hope to continue to paint and grow as an artist for the rest of my life.

Perched #3 - original realist oil painting-contemporary wildlife art

Perched #3 - original realist oil painting-contemporary wildlife art

By Elizabeth Rickert

We offer complimentary worldwide shipping and cover all tariffs and import taxes for this artwork. This exceptional artwork is currently on display and available for sale at Signet Contemporary Art Gallery and online. In Perched #3, Elizabeth Rickert focuses on a single bird resting gracefully atop a stack of timeworn books, creating a moment of quiet observation. Painted in oil on canvas, the artwork combines the precision of wildlife realism with the calm structure of a traditional still-life composition. The bird appears alert yet relaxed, its presence bringing a sense of gentle movement to the otherwise still arrangement. Rickert’s brushwork carefully captures the fine details of the bird’s plumage and the textures of the aged book covers beneath it. Each book feels tactile and familiar, their worn edges and subtle lettering suggesting years of stories and history. The simplicity of the composition allows the viewer to focus on the delicate balance between subject and setting. The colour palette is warm and earthy, with soft reds, mossy greens, muted blues and warm ochres appearing throughout the stacked books. The bird’s feathers introduce striking accents of dark charcoal and glowing orange, providing a vivid focal point within the otherwise calm composition. Executed in oil on canvas, this original artwork highlights Elizabeth Rickert’s talent for combining wildlife realism with intimate storytelling. This original work is available for sale at Signet Contemporary Art and online. Artist Biography: Elizabeth Rickert is an award-winning contemporary realist artist based in the United States whose work is inspired by the quiet poetry of the natural world. Originally trained as a sculptor, she began her artistic career working in ceramics before expanding into drawing and painting. Over time, she explored pastels and eventually transitioned to oil painting, which has become her primary medium. Elizabeth’s background in sculpture continues to influence her artistic approach. Even as a painter, she observes nature with a sculptor’s eye—carefully studying the interplay of shape, form, light, and shadow. This sensitivity to structure and atmosphere is reflected in her compositions, which often feature detailed impressions of birds...
