About the Item

Nora Othic Marceline, Missouri Signed recto Nora Othic is a painter whose work draws from close observation of rural life and the rhythms of the Midwestern landscape. She is widely recognized for her sensitive portrayals of farm animals, often developed from reference gathered at the Missouri State Fair, where gesture and personality are captured with immediacy and care. Alongside these beloved subjects, Othic creates impressionistic studies of place, from winter light filtering through bare branches to the dense vertical patterns of late-summer cornfields. Her work resonates with viewers through its familiarity, offering a nuanced and painterly reflection of everyday life in Missouri. Nora Othics artwork is held in the collections of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, MO; Daum Museum of Contemporary Art, Sedalia, MO; Marianna-Kistler Beach Museum of Art, Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS; Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, Overland Park, KS; City of Overland Park, KS; Great Plains Art Museum, Lincoln, NE and others.

"Cow", Oil on Canvas

"Cow", Oil on Canvas

By Renata Palubinskas

Located in Detroit, MI

This "Cow" painting vibrantly pops with hyper-realistic color. It depicts a highly detailed cow standing in against a blue background. Could it be an empty room? Could it be the sky? There is a very playful atmosphere as the cow is holding a dandelion gone to seed and the wonder is whether it will make a wish and blow. Its awash in a cartoonish blue with clouds and cloudy farm animals. This pairs with the lamb painting but is sold separately. Renata Palubinskas was born in 1968 in Kaunas, Lithuania, at the time still in the Soviet Union as the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic. She received her diploma in Fine Art and Restoration from St. Zukas Technium of Applied Arts in 1989. After working at the M.K. Ciurlionis State Museum of Art, she emigrated to the United States in the 1990s, basing herself in Detroit. Renata's work rethinks historic iconography while intentionally addressing the modern world through a new perspective. The characters in her paintings are often caught between the struggle of good and evil. That struggle represents the choice of trying to obtain immediate gratification or realization of the self, and the haunting life experiences with latent possibilities for death. Renata uses schematic compositions with purposefully positioned figures and other visual elements. To attract attention to the most significant figures, she often ornate their garments with intricate patterns. They are typically placed in either a serene landscape or an interior setting with a threatening presence around them. Her work has been exhibited in Collected Detroit...

By Pieter Pander

Located in Utrecht, NL

Pieter Pander (born 1962, Drachten) is a Dutch artist known for his expressive portraits of people and animals. After studying at the Minerva Art Academy in Groningen, where he was taught by artists such as Matthijs Röling, he settled in Franeker. Pander works in a figurative style with a sketch-like, dynamic touch and a distinctive color palette of browns, blues, greys, and whites. His paintings contrast rough and detailed areas, creating visual tension. He often paints wet-on-wet and prepares his coarse linen canvases with acrylics, sometimes using a burner to alter the texture. His subjects vary widely, from the Frisian landscape to images from television. Animals play a central role; he portrays them with the same respect as people, capturing their character and emotion. Inspired by Jan Mankes...
