About the Item

In the original artist’s frame Richard Benno Adam was born into an artistic family and received his first training from his father, Emil Adam. He later studied at the Munich Academy of Fine Art and the State Academy in Karlsruhe, where he developed a highly refined academic technique. Adam spent most of his career producing equestrian portraits for European nobility, including an important portrait of Kaiser Wilhelm II on horseback. Later in life, he became a professor at the Munich Academy. He rarely exhibited publicly, as private commissions provided a consistent body of work throughout his career.
