About the Item

Acrylic ink on linen. Inspired on Mark Rothko's floating shapes. Her elaborate and often repetitive patterns create moments of tension and release as they lead the viewer across the canvas. Cintia Garc├¡a allows elements of chance to dictate the composition of the painting. She begins each work by tracing paint directly onto the canvas. From there, her process is highly technical and laborious, as she covers the surface of the work with straight networks of line and shape. Garc├¡a has described his abstract paintings as ΓÇ£mind-mapsΓÇ¥ΓÇövisual representations of his emotional state while working on a given piece. He does not predetermine the composition of a work, but rather allows visceral tics and emotional compulsions to guide his painting. It is a meditative, intensely physical process. ΓÇÿI have to wait for the right moment to draw some lines,ΓÇÖ she has said. ΓÇÿSometimes it takes days and weeks to find the right state of mind. My breathing needs to be absolutely under control.ΓÇÖ The work ressembles a clash of tectonic plates, exposing a powerful tension of layers and a crack.
