Appearances explores the moment when a form becomes visible, yet resists fully revealing itself. The works suggest figures that emerge through color, texture, and movement rather than fixed identity. Created with a palette knife to achieve an impasto surface, each painting carries a subtle presence, not as a portrait but as an encounter.

About Artist
Abiodun Nafiu Azeez is an accomplished artist with a diverse background in contemporary painting, particularly in the Osogbo art movement. However, his true passion lies in abstract expression, where he seeks to promote African art, culture, and nature. Influenced by his artist father, he paints to preserve memories and connect with broader societal concerns.
The abstraction and simplification of human compositions characterize Abiodun's artistic style. He employs vibrant oil colors, often focusing on primary colors that transition into secondary and tertiary hues. His subjects stand out against neutral backgrounds, creating a harmonious balance in his paintings. A prominent feature in his works is the use of red, blue, and yellow tones, subtly blended to emphasize form and shape.
His artistic journey includes training under the renowned bead painting contemporary artist Jimoh Buraimoh and studying at The Universal Studio of Arts in Lagos, Nigeria. Currently pursuing a graduate research program at the University of Benin, Abiodun previously studied fine and applied art at the same university and holds a diploma in fine art from The Polytechnic of Ibadan, Nigeria.
Abiodun has a rich exhibition history, participating in numerous local and international exhibitions, including the "Miniature Art Fair, Lagos, Nigeria" in 2021, "Annual Art Exhibition, Crowne Art Gallery, Benin, Nigeria" in 2018, Yoruba Ni Mi, International Art Exhibition Group Show, Yoruba Gallery, Uk in 2022, Art for Cause, Online International Art Exhibition, 2022.
Throughout his artistic journey, Abiodun draws inspiration from his father's work, aiming to translate his imagination, African culture, and environmental subjects into visual representations. He seeks to breathe new life into African culture and tradition by utilizing the Osogbo Art style to express himself and promote African Art.
