About the Item

If you have an association with dance, yoga or working out, this unusual modernist painting might be an interesting addition to your space. Artist Albert Michini used several models to compose this “workout portrait” back in the 1970’s. The four figures are in various positions that reflect dance, ballet and stylish modeling. The time period is well represented with numerous bright patterns and colors filling in the background. These patterns tend to give the piece a “groovy” feel, that was certainly popular at the time. Albert Michini was born in Philadelphia in 1925. After serving in the Second World War he studied art back in Philadelphia. He moved his family to Connecticut in the 1960’s to teach at the Famous Art School, a correspondence art education studio that was founded by Norman Rockwell and Albert Dorne. In 1976, he moved back to Pennsylvania to take a sculptor’s position at the Franklin Mint. He also worked for the US military, painting new airplane designs that were being developed and introduced to our fleet. The most admirable of the many qualities of his paintings is their realism, with attention to details. As an illustrator for many years, his paintings have been featured in many publications, just as Norman Rockwell’s had. Albert Michini died in 1994. This particular work of his dates to the early 1970’s. It is oil on board and is in fairly good condition, with only a few very minor abrasions and touch ups, mostly on the far right side. It is signed lower right and inscribed on the reverse. It is framed in a modernist frame from the period. The overall framed dimensions are 16 1/2” x 31 1/2”. This work by a noted American illustration artist could bring an added touch to your home or workout space. It is ready to hang and enjoy.
