About the Item

I am Andrea Sbra Perego, a multidisciplinary visual artist born in Bergamo, Italy, andcurrently based in New York. My work mainly focuses on painting, but my experiences span photography, video, sculpture, and installation. My artistic research is fueled by travels aimed at investigating the close relationship between humans and the surrounding environment. In my view, humans are the leading actors in the interaction with urban spaces, constantly witnessing and influencing the ways society shapes nature. Over the past decade, my journey has evolved, deeply rooting my work in the exploration of human experience and contemporary urban landscapes. Using mixed media painting as my primary technique, I blend traditional approaches with modern processes to evoke a deeper understanding of the spaces we inhabit and the unseen connections that bind us. My art is not just a reflection of my thoughts but also an invitation for viewers to engage in a dialogue about their own experiences and perceptions of the world around them. In 2017, I began a collaboration with Federica Patera, creating a unique project that intertwines literature and art. Our work aims to be a bridge between these two disciplines, employing analogy and abstraction as fundamental tools, with books and fabrics as our chosen materials. Our goal is to create imagery for the invisible and explore how to remember it. Fabric, like writing, shares a lexicon that represents movement and impermanence, echoing the tents of nomadic peoples and the sequential nature of texts. In 2021, I founded DRIM Contemporary Art Ground, an independent art space in the heart of Turin. This endeavor has become an integral part of my work, providing me with constant opportunities to engage with other artists who use different techniques and allowing me to maintain a dual perspective as both an artist and a curator.
