About the Item

Oil on canvas realized by Franco Marzilli (1934-2010) in 1970s. Hand signed lower right. Very good condition. Franco Marzilli was born in Rome in 1934. He received his first artistic training by attending the Preparatory School for Ornamental Arts in Rome, continuing a personal pictorial research inspired by the typical atmospheres of the artists of the Roman School. He began exhibiting in 1962 in various Italian galleries and, between the end of the 1960s and the beginning of the 1970s, he was invited to present his work in New York, London and Paris, where he lived for a short period.  Back in Italy, he expanded his study of sculpture applied to both bronze and ceramics.  Through the use of colors obtained from the skilful manual dosage of earths and oils spread on the canvas with soft brushstrokes, Marzilli renews classical themes by restoring the typical dimensions of urban views, especially Roman ones, of dancers at rest, of fruit compositions and of landscapes of the Sabine countryside. Among the many exhibitions in private galleries and public spaces, noteworthy are the solo shows at the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences of Cardiff University in 1973 and at the Sala de Exposiciones of the City of Buenos Aires in 1997.

Bouquet de Fleurs, Oil on Board Still Life, Signed, Framed, 1982

By Louis Toncini

Located in London, GB

'Bouquet de Fleurs', oil on board, by Louis Toncini (1982). Painted towards the end of his career, this piece belongs to that part of his body of work which was lighthearted, optimistic and pleasing. It is a stunning still life characterised by Toncini's vibrant colours and textured layers of oil paint deftly applied. This vase holds the flowers of Toncini's native Provence and is a love letter from the artist to the viewer. In good overall condition. It is newly framed with a French-style linen slip. It is signed by the artist in the lower left hand. Upon request, a short video of this piece may be provided. (NB - On the reverse of this painting is another called 'Landscape in Saint Clément on the Durance' which is currently covered by the backing board. Image with accompanying photos to this listing. About the Artist: Louis Toncini (1907-2002), born in Marseille, France and was one of a group of artists who founded the 'peintres prolétariens', or later, the painters of the people. He painted the world of workers and depicted such subjects as factories, warehouses, train stations and working ports, etc. After the war his work took a more optimistic turn with paintings of still lifes, bouquets and country landscapes. In 1936, along with fellow artists Antoine Serra, François Diana...
