Girl with a basket of kittens in a summer garden, what could be more refreshing? Early 20th century framed oil painting is by figurative Belgian artist George Van Nuffel. Standing in a summer garden a girl smiles adoringly at a kitten. She holds a basket of more kittens. Flowers, pink roses, seem to float across the green landscape. Flowing auburn hair and soft white hat and dress complete the summery view. George Van Nuffel is known for his figurative paintings, often with a pet, from peacocks to kittens. His signature, G.V. Nuffel, is in the lower right corner. One of his best known artworks of a little girl sold at Christie’s in 1998 in the UK for the equivalent of more than $16000. His work rarely appears for sale at auction. This work was in a private collection in the UK. When previously sold there was a very prominent scratch that limited its appeal. The scratch has been restored, the painting has been professionally cleaned, and it now presents very well! The period frame is also in very good condition, consistent with age. Newly presented in very good order, perfect for a room with a garden view, for that special girl, or for any space that needs a bit of sunny outdoors to liven and refresh. Am thinking lavender and linen, climbing roses on a trellis, adorable pets and a basket, a girl on a cool summer day surrounded by verdant green. And you? Bring summer indoors year round with this charming work!
