About the Item

In Lives, I explore new forms of expression through anonymous figures cut out against pure color backgrounds. These figures, stripped of their original context, are brought into the painting to abstract their existence and reveal only the essential. In this work, a man walks away while a woman moves toward the viewer. Both young, they might know each other—or not. They cross paths in the painting, though perhaps never would in real life. The characters' clothing offers clues about the era in which they have been captured. Beyond its aesthetic function, clothing plays a vital role in conveying internal information about the figures: it speaks of their identity, their social and cultural context. For instance, a preference for certain colors or styles can reflect aspects of their personality or environment. Thus, the work invites the viewer to pause and observe, discovering in the details of the attire a deeper narrative about the lives represented.
