About the Item

Acrylic on canvas Kusbudiyanto, a contemporary Indonesian artist, was born in 1969 and lives in Yogyakarta, a city at the heart of artistic creation in Indonesia. From an early age, he developed a passion for depicting rural life, which he began to illustrate through drawing and painting. Before devoting himself fully to his artistic career, he worked in the craft design sector, which refined his sensitivity to materials, textures and cultural symbolism. Since 2016, Kusbudiyanto has devoted himself exclusively to canvas painting, developing a colorful, pattern-rich figurative style inspired by traditional Javanese culture. His works evoke celebrations such as Satu Suro, symbolic elements such as keris or wayang kulit, and everyday scenes involving humans and animals. Through his compositions, he pays homage to the myths, rituals, and folk tales of the Indonesian archipelago, particularly those of Java. His style is often described as tropical, both for its vibrant palette and the abundance of plant, floral, and animal motifs. He uses acrylic and mixed media on canvas, constructing detailed scenes where traditions, spirituality, and community life intersect. Children, markets, the forest, and local wildlife are all recurring subjects that reflect a narrative and humanist approach to creation. Since 2017, Kusbudiyanto has exhibited regularly in Indonesia and internationally, including in Yogyakarta, Singapore, and other Southeast Asian art centers. His work is collected by contemporary Indonesian art enthusiasts who appreciate the cultural richness of his visual narratives.

Untitled Mohammad Ariyaei Contemporary Iranian art painting oriental art drawing

By Mohammad Ariyaei

Acrylic painting on paper Hand-signed by the artist lower left Unique work THE THOUSAND AND ONE NIGHTS OF MOHAMMAD ARIYAEI " Gentleness and oriental wisdom follow the supercharged bubbling to which we were accustomed from the previous deliberately art brut exhibition by Mohammad ARIYAEI. The Iranian painter's imagination moves serenely from the wildest frenzy to the meditative calm of great, fabulous stories. The artist then took pleasure in pouring the volcanic torrent of his barbaric figures onto the delicate latticework with which he is accustomed to lining his backgrounds with the patience of an illuminating monk. Already sweetness and paroxysm coexisted. Now gentleness wins. The trained imagination of the painter, yet spontaneously bubbling, by instinct as much as by erudition, has no difficulty in reconnecting with the abundant oriental tradition of the thousand and one nights, which, like a long underground river, resurfaces at the light of his painting. Spring renewal of traditions still alive. Systematic filling of space, a sort of oriental version of the Riches Heures...

Having been nurtured by a Yoruba father who happens to be a twin was a major inspiration for creating this painting. In Yoruba culture, twins are considered a special blessing from God. They are mostly called ‘ibeji’ which means twins. In Yoruba society, twins are given special names, such as Taiwo (meaning “first to taste the world“) and Kehinde (meaning “second to taste the world”). It is mostly believed that twins have special privileges and are accompanied by several fortunes. About Artist Oluwatobiloba Amusan...
