About the Item

Artist Comments
1998–1999 marked a particularly tumultuous chapter for artist Mark Cudd. In this first installment of a 50-image series, he attempts to construct an honest account of that time while working to reconcile the emotions tied to those experiences. The painting features a couple closely together, sharing an intimate moment.

About the Artist
Artist Mark Cudd creates monochromatic portraits that explore the emotional layers of memory and the human experience. “My work should remind you of something,” says Mark. His paintings often stir a quiet sense of nostalgia, aiming to establish a dialogue based on common experiences, fears, ideas, and memories. Primarily self-taught, Mark draws from 20th-century photography—old family albums, found images, and his own snapshots—to shape stories that feel both familiar and imagined. His process blends multiple techniques and styles within a single image, giving each piece a distinct rhythm and psychological depth.

At Long Last - Modern Oil Painting on Canvas, Signed, 2009, Unframed

By Ryan Mendoza

Located in Roma, IT

At long last is a contemporary artwork realized by Ryan Mendoza in 2009. Oil painting on canvas. Hand signed and dated on the back. Provenance: Galleria Massimo Minini, Brescia Born in 1971 in New York, Mendoza's personal story is subsequently intertwined with the two extremes of Europe, Naples and Berlin, the two cities in which he has lived and worked up to now. In his works he represents complex theatricality, models anatomies, doses colours, calibrates lights, draws on a rich archive of memories, confusing ancient pictorial wisdom and contemporary risks. The artist's attention is particularly focused on portraits in which he carries out distortions and alterations: he exhibits perspective disproportions, reveals anatomical dissonances, manifests dystonias between the characters in the foreground and the backgrounds. His characters appear "possessed", it is no coincidence that the title of the 2010 solo show at the Muse d'Arte Contemporanea Donna Regina in Naples is "The possessed...

The Silence

The Silence

By John Francis Gallagher

Located in New York, NY

Oil Portrait. The Silence is from the ingmar Bergman movie of the same title and the painting features Ingrid Thulin and Gunnel Lindblom. About the Artist: John Francis Gallagher is a Boston-based contemporary artist. Born in Drogheda, Ireland in the Boyne Valley, he emigrated to the United States at 19. John worked in graphic design, advertising and architectural rendering before turning his hand, full-time, to painting. A self-taught figurative artist, his work has a vintage style that is influenced by the so-called pulp artists of the 20th century. In his large-scale canvases, tone is given precedent to create realism. Working within a limited palette of tones, The paint is woven under, over, and into itself in layers to create a portrait that is seemingly simple but satisfyingly complex. The work has a strong quiet energy that creates space for itself in a frenetic, busy world by being the exact opposite. Often drawn from 1960s European Cinema...
