Muriel Chazalon (b. 1957) is a French painter and printmaker born in 1957. Her artistic journey began with a deep fascination for figurative representation, initially exploring drawing and writing as intimate forms of expression. While pursuing studies in tourism, she simultaneously attended the École du Louvre, where her education in art history across civilizations provided a foundational understanding of global artistic traditions. Early travels to Greece, Egypt, and the Middle East exposed her to classical masterpieces, which initially proved intimidating. However, her focus shifted toward modern and contemporary masters such as Dalí, Nicolas de Staël, Giorgio Morandi, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Joan Mitchell. Their audacity and singular styles inspired her to develop her own unique visual language. Working primarily as a self-taught artist in her studio in Eure-et-Loir, Chazalon creates works that celebrate nature, oscillating between figuration and abstraction. Her practice is centered on two major themes: trees and water. Through these subjects, she explores the dynamics of perception and movement, capturing the fluidity of landscapes traversed. In addition to painting, Chazalon has dedicated herself to printmaking since 2022. She trains at Atelier Rigal and with engraver Catherine Gillet, returning to the precision of the line and the burin to complement her painterly work. Her art is characterized by a continuous dialogue between the observed world and the emotional response it evokes, inviting the viewer to pause and reflect on the natural environment.
