About the Item

Seventeenth-century Tuscan painter Angel of the Annunciation Oil on canvas 52 x 74.5 cm Framed 94 x 71 cm The work on offer, characterised by a refined sacredness, depicts the Archangel Gabriel in the act of delivering the supreme announcement to the Virgin Mary, offering her the canonical white lilies, symbol of purity and chastity. It is a splendid subject, executed with stylistic refinement, probably commissioned for private use and therefore particularly pleasing and easy to place. The Angel takes the form of a young man with delicate features, with his finger raised as if to emphasise his revelation, wrapped in a bright red drape and a white robe, with a dark background that emphasises the movements of the figure and the gesture of his hand. The work, characterised by fluid, vaporous brushstrokes and a luminism that is not overly marked, denotes a profane attention to iconography and compositional methods still common in late Mannerist Tuscan painting, an extraordinarily happy artistic period which, especially at the turn of the century, saw an impressive succession of leading artistic personalities. In this case, although it is difficult to attribute the work to a particular name, the stylistic characteristics suggest that it was painted by a master of the Florentine school, active in the 17th century. The composition is characterised by intense colours and a particularly lively chiaroscuro effect, emphasised by the intense red of the angel's clothes and the glow that illuminates the angel from the front. Good condition. Complete with a beautiful antique box frame. In wood painted to imitate marble. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The work is sold with a certificate of authenticity and a descriptive iconographic card. We arrange and organise the transport of purchased works, both in Italy and abroad, through professional and insured carriers. Annunciation Bonini Paint Oil in canvas Old master 17th Century Leonardo Italy

Annunciation Bonini Paint Oil in canvas Old master 17th Century Leonardo Italy

Girolamo Bonini, called Anconitano (Ancona, circa 1600 - Bologna 1680) Annunciation (or Madonna of the Beautiful Angel) Oil on canvas (115 x 91 cm. - Framed 134 x 108 cm.) Work accompanied by the expertise of Prof. Emilio Negro The work, undoubtedly commissioned as an object of private devotion, shows the Annunciation to the Virgin Mary, a Gospel episode here set on the two figures portrayed in the foreground, the Archangel Gabriel with outstretched wings, a portrait of supernatural beauty, and the Virgin; We see her here absorbed in reading a prayer book with her eyes turned humbly downwards as a sign of devotion, while a small cherub hands her white lilies, a symbol of purity and chastity.   In the upper part of the composition is the austere image of God the Father, with the dove radiating with light, emblem of the Holy Spirit, surrounded by a flock of angels fluttering in the clouds charged with intense glow and play of light, in full Baroque style. It should also be noted that the image of the Saviour's mother in a delicately pious attitude, with her yellow veil, her broad blue mantle and her usual modest red dress from which the edges of her white blouse protrude, is to be interpreted as a kind of tender allegory of sacred love. The painting in question is an interesting replica with variants of the composition commissioned from Francesco Albani for the Fioravanti chapel in the ancient church...

Angels Floral Garland Maratta Paint Oil on table Old master 17th Century Italian

Located in Riva del Garda, IT

Pair of angels with floral garland and cartouche with family motto 'Pulchriora latent' Workshop of Carlo Maratta (Camerano, 1625 - Rome, 1713) Dated on parchment, right: 1697 oil on the table (94 x 84cm./ in frame 105 x 95 cm.) This magnificent composition, depicting two little fluttering cupids intent on holding up a garland of flowers, can be traced back, both for the stylistic characteristics and for the compositional taste, to a master active in the fervid seventeenth-century Baroque Rome. One of the two cupids is about to grab the bow of the garland with his head facing downwards, while with the other hand he shows a parchment which bears, in addition to the date of execution, the Latin expression "Pulchriora latent" ("The the most beautiful things...
