JM Plotast Mod London City, Big Ben Clock Tower Cityscape Painting Hand signed and dated upper right 1959 36 X 24 inches Plotast, Josef Marc (Joseph Mark) Was born in Southbridge, Massachusetts, on August 8, 1917, studied architecture and art at various universities and art schools in France, Italy, Poland and the USA. His architectural work consists primarily of works of sacred art, and more than a hundred works in this direction bear witness to his work. In the sixties and seventies the artist designed and built impressive villas on the Costa Costa. This painting beautifully expresses American and British Mid Century Modernism. The vintage graphic works of the artist include posters, book illustrations and "greeting cards". His paintings were exhibited in various galleries in the USA and Europe. Sagittarius Gallery, New York Gallery Mondaine, New York Bergdorf-Goodman Art Gallery, New York St. James Galleries, New York Artists' House Graz, Austria Nebbiensches Gartenhaus, Frankfurt - Palais Pálffy, Vienna Municipal Art Association Erlangen The sculptures were exhibited at the "Elms Museum" in Newport, RI, and at the Jefferson Museum in Texas. His works of art are found in various public and private collections. Big Ben is the nickname for the Great Bell of the Great Clock of Westminster, and, by extension, for the clock tower which stands at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London, England. Originally named the Clock Tower, the structure was renamed the Elizabeth Tower in 2012 to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. The clock is a striking clock with five bells. The tower was designed by Augustus Pugin and Sir Charles Barry in the Perpendicular Gothic style and was completed in 1859. It is decorated with stone carvings and features symbols related to the four countries of the United Kingdom and the Tudor dynasty. A Latin inscription celebrates Queen Victoria, under whose reign the palace was built. The Great Bell was cast by the Whitechapel Bell Foundry and weighs 13.5 long tons (13.7 tonnes; 15.1 short tons). Its nickname, "Big Ben", derives from the tall Sir Benjamin Hall, who oversaw its installation. Big Ben is a British cultural icon. It is a prominent symbol of Britain and parliamentary democracy in the United Kingdom.
