About the Item

Nineteenth Century Impressionist Oil Painting of River Severn Landscape with Cattle watering and green Fields on a Summers Day. Signed Oil on Canvas on Stretchers and Framed in a Whistler style handmade gold Frame by Sir Ernest Albert Waterlow RA and ROI. Bright and bold Landscape by this highly revered British Artist who was knighted for his services to Art in 1903. In an article in the Art Journal in 1906, Waterlow's art was characterised as: "graceful, charming and harmonious, of singular freshness of execution, appealing to the senses by its elevated style and dignity of beauty, and by its mastery of accomplishment to the intellect. But to the passions it makes no call, because the stern or awful moods of Nature pass over his head and leave him, not unmoved, but unconcerned" - couldn't have put it better myself!! He studied at the Royal Academy Schools and won the Turner Medal for Landscape Painting. He was elected a member of the Royal Watercolour Society in 1894 and was made its President in 1897. He was made a full Royal Academician in 1903. His work is in many public and private collections including the Tate Gallery London. His unsold works was left to the nation on his death through his wife and The Verity Waterlow Bequest with proceeds supporting many local charities.
