About the Item

Venetian painter (19th century) - Venice, view of the Campiello delle Chiovere toward the church of S. Rocco and the bell tower of S. Maria Gloriosa dei Frari. 73 x 37 cm (without frame) - 82 x 46 cm (with frame). Oil on canvas, in a gilt wood frame (not signed). The painting depicts the Campiello delle Chiovere, one of the less frequently represented corners of Venetian topography, with a stone wellhead in the foreground and a male figure wearing a hat crossing the open space. In the background, the dome and campanile of San Rocco are clearly identifiable, and to the right, the brick mass of the Frari basilica with its Romanesque bell tower. The brushwork is loose and rapid in the rendering of vegetation and architectural surfaces, while midday light is distributed with care in the contrast between the shadowed areas of the pavement and the sunlit façades. The work belongs to the tradition of naturalistic Venetian veduta painting of the 19th century. Condition report: Relined canvas. Good state of conservation of the painted surface. • This item is sold with attribution and age documentation with legal validity. • Further details on the condition report are available upon request. Note for non-Italian buyers: This work has not yet obtained the certificate of free export from Italy, issued by the Superintendency of Cultural Heritage, which certifies that the work does not belong to the Italian cultural heritage and may therefore be freely exported.
