About the Item

"The Delegation Returns" is a large canvas measuring 42 inches H. x 54 inches W. by Choctaw artist Marcus Amerman done in 1987. This work was completed relatively early in his career but all the elements of this artist's classic style are present. Marcus Amerman draws upon a wide range of influences to create strikingly original works that reflect the native cultural traditions in the three different regions where he lived. In addition, his work reflects his academic interest in pop art and social commentary, as well as his inventive exploration using beads in his artwork. Although he is best known for his bead art, he is also a multimedia artist, painter, performance artist (his character “Buffalo Man” can be seen on the cover of the book "Indian Country"), fashion designer, and glass artist. His work is in the permanent collections of museums such as the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, the Portland Art Museum, and the American Museum of Natural History, among many others.
