About the Item

Title Seated Female Nude Purple Pink Interior French Modernist Oil Painting Artist Jacqueline Boisselot French late 20th century Medium Oil on canvas unframed Size 25.25 x 21.75 Height x width in inches Signature Unsigned Provenance Private collection Paris Condition Good overall condition with strong colour and a well-preserved painted surface. The paper has pronounced creasing, folding and handling wear around the broad unpainted margins, particularly at the corners and along the upper and lower edges. There are scattered paint marks and minor surface abrasions within the border, consistent with age and studio storage. The principal painted image remains attractive and suitable for framing, with the margins capable of being concealed beneath a mount. Description A powerful and intimate seated female nude by Jacqueline Boisselot, painted in a richly atmospheric palette of warm cream, ochre, pale yellow, deep plum, charcoal grey and vibrant pink. The model is shown frontally in a relaxed seated pose, one knee extending across the foreground while her raised arm rests against the side of her head. Boisselot constructs the figure through broad, layered passages of oil paint rather than tightly controlled anatomical detail. The body is modelled using warm ivory, muted gold and softly blushed flesh tones, with cooler grey and violet marks defining the contours of the torso, hips and limbs. This loose handling gives the figure a strong physical presence while retaining the immediacy of a studio study. The sitter’s pose is both informal and introspective. Her head tilts slightly downwards, and her gaze appears lowered or turned inward. The raised arm creates a sweeping diagonal from the upper left towards the face, while the opposite arm follows the side of the body and anchors the composition at the lower right. These opposing lines give the work balance and a quiet sense of movement. The face is treated with particular restraint. Boisselot uses only a small number of economical marks to indicate the eyes, nose and mouth, allowing expression to emerge through posture and tone rather than detailed portraiture. The dark hair forms a compact shape around the head, standing out against the paler skin and connecting visually with the deep shadowed background. Behind the sitter, broad fields of charcoal, aubergine and dusky purple create an enclosed interior atmosphere. A vertical band of magenta and rose pink at the right introduces a vivid chromatic contrast, while paler mauve and cream passages suggest a curtain, wall or softly illuminated section of the room. The setting remains intentionally ambiguous, keeping attention firmly on the figure. The warm yellow highlights placed along the shoulder, upper arm and thigh suggest light falling across the body. These accents enliven the otherwise muted flesh tones and give the figure greater dimensionality. Areas of visible underpainting and loosely blended colour preserve the energy of Boisselot’s working process. The broad unpainted border surrounding the image adds to its studio character. Although visibly creased and worn, it clearly separates the concentrated painted composition from the edge of the sheet and could be concealed beneath a mount when framed. From an interior perspective, this is a confident and highly decorative figurative work. The combination of warm flesh tones, deep plum and saturated pink would work especially well in bedrooms, dressing rooms, studies or sophisticated contemporary living spaces. Its portrait format and direct composition would also make it an effective focal point within a curated gallery wall. Jacqueline Boisselot was a French artist active during the late 20th century, known for expressive figure studies, portraits, interiors, still lifes, landscapes and abstract compositions. Her work is characterised by loose, confident handling, simplified forms and a sensitive, colour-led approach to composition. Seated Female Nude Oil Painting – Spanish Figurative Expressionist 20th Century

Located in Sitges, Barcelona

Artist: Francisco Abad Doblas (Spain, b. 1933) Title: Seated Female Nude Date: 1975 Medium: Oil on canvas Dimensions: 65 × 81 cm (25.6 × 31.9 in) Signature: Signed upper right Framing: Unframed Condition: Very good. Firm canvas and stable paint layer with visible impasto. No apparent restorations. Period: 20th Century A striking seated female nude executed in oil on canvas by Spanish painter Francisco Abad Doblas. This powerful figurative composition presents a seated woman rendered with confident, textured brushwork and a vibrant chromatic palette. Flesh tones are constructed through layered strokes of pinks, ochres, greens and blues, creating both movement and depth. The cool-toned background enhances the warmth of the figure, reinforcing anatomical structure and spatial contrast. The painting reflects the Spanish post-impressionist figurative tradition of the mid-to-late 20th century, combining academic discipline with expressive painterly freedom. Particular attention is given to the modeling of the face and hands, demonstrating strong draftsmanship and studio practice. With its balanced 65 × 81 cm format and strong visual presence, the work functions as a statement piece within a refined contemporary interior or a collection focused on European figurative art. Francisco Abad Doblas (Spain, born 1933) is a Spanish figurative painter active during the second half of the 20th century. His work focuses on traditional genres such as landscape, still life and the human figure, developed through direct observation and a loose post-impressionist brushstroke. His paintings circulated through Spanish private galleries during the 1970s and 1980s and continue to appear in European secondary market sales, appreciated by collectors of academic and figurative Spanish art.
