Men have feelings and emotions. They need empathy and engagement. But we tell them, ‘Don’t be needy’ or ‘Don’t cry.’ We are pitting a male's neurobiology and human need for relationships against a culture that says boys should never show vulnerability. Men deserve flowers too, you see, Not just the fairer sex, as society decrees. For men have hearts that bleed and love so true, And their souls crave beauty, just like yours do. Their eyes light up at the sight of blooms, As if the colors danced in tuneful croons. The scent of roses fills their senses bright, And they feel alive, beneath the sun's sweet light. So let us not forget, in our haste to praise, The gentle grace of femininity's ways. For men, though strong and brave, can also bask, In the delicate charms of floral grace. Let us adorn them with bouquets of pride, And celebrate their worth, side by side. For all humanity, regardless of gender, Deserves to bask in beauty's radiant splendor. Olaosun believes that black is not just a color, but our existence, and she uses black skin in her work to convey this message. Olaosun Oluwapelumi is a passionate artist dedicated to creating positive change in the world through her art. Her medium of choice is acrylic and oil on canvas, and she spends days working on each piece to ensure that it expresses her emotions and connects with her viewers. Olaosun draws her inspiration from her life experiences and everything that touches her feelings. She is particularly interested in conveying messages on gender inequality problems, social issues, and African history among other issues connected to black people. Through her art, Olaosun aims to create a connection with her viewers, making them feel the intensity of the story she tells. The process of researching and working with different materials has brought Olaosun new challenges, and new ideals, which encourage her to continue creating multiple layers in her artwork. Her dedication to self-teaching has allowed her to develop her skills in pencil and painting and has given her the confidence to express herself through her art. Recently she used Green and Black in her works which symbolize peace and tranquility, as well as hope, harmony, and optimism. Black is a color of many sentiments. It could be associated with grief, mourning, or the occult. Mystery, bleakness, heaviness, depression, rebellion, fear. But it is also significantly associated with the strength and resilience of the African people. She loves to create through the pains of people around her, to give them hope and let them know that they are not alone. Olaosun's works have been exhibited locally and internationally in galleries and art fairs. She continues to create art that sparks emotions and creates positive change, and her works are a testament to her dedication to her craft and her desire to make a difference in the world.

Be-Flowered I Painting, Realist Style, Acrylic and Charcoal on Canvas

"Be-Flowered" is deeply rooted in the African cultural heritage of a female child. In African culture, it is revered that a young woman should maintain her sexual purity until marriage, which brings immense joy and honor to her family when her husband finds her a virgin on their wedding night. The title "Be-Flowered" is derived from the concept of "Deflower," which signifies taking away a lady's innocence or dispossessing her of her virginity. However, in this painting series, my premise is centered on empowering women and celebrating their pride and inherent power. The first two pieces of the series feature ladies adorned in traditional South African bids worn during the Virgin festival. The gentle pink clouds symbolize feminine power and poise, evoking the strength and grace embodied by women. A community that empowers women tends to uphold higher moral standards than one that does not. My perspective veers away from the idea of gender equality, recognizing its limitations, and instead, I believe in gender equity, providing each gender with the opportunities they need to fulfill their potential. This series aims to leave my audience with a profound appreciation for empowerment and a celebration of cultural heritage. I hope viewers will reflect on the significance of embracing one's roots while acknowledging the strength and beauty that women contribute to society.
