About the Item

This painting features hues of orange, yellow, purple and blue. This surrealist still life features fruit, vegetables, an egg, a teapot, a blue bird and a paint brush. Guy Robinson is inspired by the work of Paul Klee, Albrecht Durer and Giuseppe Arcimboldo. Guy Robinson is an Atlanta-based contemporary surrealist painter. His current show, Animism, Alchemy & Reflection, explores these interconnected ideas through masterfully rendered paintings that are at once playful and unsettling. Filled with patterns, animals, botanicals and familiar objects, Guy’s compositions invite viewers into worlds where the ordinary shifts into something psychologically charged and quietly mysterious. “These three ideas are always at play in my work,” Guy explains. Animism begins with the belief that nothing is truly inanimate, a suspicion that objects have subtly rearranged themselves to appear normal when you re-enter a room. “Everything vibrates. Everything is alive. Then, of course, the paintings become animated,” observes Guy. Alchemy, both psychological and spiritual, speaks to transformation: movement from one state into another. “The alchemy of Art is its ability to take even the darkest thoughts and emotions and, through a balance of passion and discipline, transform them into something transcendent, something sublime.” Reflection addresses the shifting relationship between perception and self-awareness. “The image we see in the mirror changes constantly with our mental state,” Guy contends. “Things change and are changed by our perceptions. Everything we see is a Rorschach test. Our reflections on a work of Art change us.” Together, these ideas create a framework for Guy’s practice, where objects become animated, meaning remains fluid, and perception itself becomes an act of transformation. Guy attended the Atlanta College of Art on a Ford Foundation grant and has worked extensively in painting, sculpture, printmaking and drawing throughout his career. His surrealist works have been exhibited internationally and are held in the collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia. Guy taught drawing and painting through Emory University Continuing Education for 40 years.

Italian artist Daniela Astone lives and works in Florence. Daniela Astone graduated in 2004. She had her first solo exhibition shortly afterwards in the United States. Since then, the international attention of the Italian artist has only grown. The classical structure and narrative paintings show a technique that is special. Her style is virtuoso and her subjects are narrative. The keys are loose and subtle.
