About the Item

Through ephemeral constructions of ice cubes and origami paper boxes, Kevin Palme (b. 1976, Morristown, NJ) seeks to convey the transitory nature of life. As the artist explains, "These structures are fragile, designed to fail, either by melting or being disassembled and discarded. Standing alone against indeterminate spaces, there is something dramatic and historical about these buildings. These vignettes serve as a memorial to things destined not to last." Palme recognizes that transience can be made palpable through painting. "A painted image is the tangible result of working with a changing and flexible medium until the arrival of an end. It is a path that allows a memory to be made into something more concrete than an idea." Kevin Palme maintains his studio in Asheville, NC. He has participated in exhibitions across the country and is featured in private collections globally. Palme earned a BA degree from Wake Forest University and an MFA degree from the Savannah College of Art and Design.
