About the Item

This piece, "One Red Pear", is a 30x30 oil painting on canvas by artist Ora Sorensen. Featured in this piece are a clear glass bowl of green pears with one single red pear in the mix. The background is a black tablecloth that shows ripples in the fabric. Water droplets can be seen resting on the pears. About the artist: Sorensen describes her work as “exaggerated realism”, where the colors, scale, contrast and lighting are pushed just beyond reality. Her popular still lifes evoke the beauty of nature, and then heighten it with vibrant colors, brilliant light and dancing shadows. Their sensuality draws you in, making the viewer want to breathe in the sweet aroma of the luminous flowers or bite into a luscious pear. Ora’s laborious method of oil painting uses many layers of thin transparent oil paint to give a deep jewel like glow to the surfaces of the painting’s subject matter. Sorensen was born in New York but grew up overseas in such countries as Libya, Turkey, Iran, Holland and Thailand. Throughout her travels, Ora spent a lot of time drawing and painting as a child, taking workshops from artists all over the world. Ora owned an art gallery in Delray Beach, Florida for twenty years, and her paintings have been shown in many exhibitions over the past decades. Sorensen currently lives and paints in North Carolina. Ora’s latest projects include a commission for the Cleveland Clinic in Naples, Florida as well as five commissioned paintings for the lobby of the new Intercontinental Hotel in Cleveland, Ohio. Ora has been a contributing columnist to THE PROFESSIONAL ARTIST MAGAZINE and THE ARTIST’S MAGAZINE.

"Lit Up Life", is a 12x9 oil painting on board by artist Sean Farrell. Featured is an arrangement of freshly picked red cherries overflowing a polished gold metal bowl. The graceful direction of the cherry stems create movement and flow in this harmonious piece. Strong shadows cast onto the linen cloth underneath. Rich tones of orange and reds contrast the green stems. About the artist: “As I paint at my easel each day in the studio, I approach creating art with the idea of continually developing my artistic understanding and enhancing my personal expression,” writes Sean Farrell of his philosophy of life as an artist. Farrell, who grew up in a small town where there were few opportunities for formal art education, began drawing on his own at a young age and through intense study of the great artists he found in library books began to nurture his innate talent. He writes of his younger years, “Looking at great paintings always excited me and by visiting museums [and] studying numerous art books…I gradually began to increase my artistic understanding,” which led Farrell to teach himself to paint with oils in the late 1980’s and then eventually to attend a painting workshop in New Mexico in the early 1990’s where he met numerous professional artists, who inspired him to a full-time artistic career. Internationally, the prestigious Florence Biennale invited the artist to participate and exhibit work in Florence, Italy. NYARTS Magazine covered the exhibition and in their published review gave the following praise to the works of Sean Farrell… “Works deserving special attention was Sean Farrell’s exquisitely painted flower and fruit arrangements. Eye-catching with his use of dramatically bold colors mixed with delicate detail in a very modern old-master style.” Choosing to travel extensively throughout Italy and also to other regions of Europe over attending art school, the artist has studied and learned from the great master works in the history of art. His paintings reveal his affection for the 17th century Italian and Dutch painters while still remaining truly unique. Mr. Farrell’s works are distinctive for their elegant and graceful compositions, his rich jewel like color, and an elevated sensitivity to the beautiful nuances of light. His works reveal a master’s touch and a quiet ease. Sean Farrell is internationally recognized and a highly collected artist. He is known for his vivid and luminous oil paintings...
