My wife had been travelling and brought back some seeds of a rare flower. When it finally bloomed in the garden, I realised it was unlike any of the local plants. After placing it in a painted vase, I spent a long time searching for the right background. In the end, I chose the deep colour of the night sky and the colour of dry earth to emphasise the exotic nature of my ‘night star’.
