About the Item

Pigment print on rag paper Frame size: 24.25 x 24.25 x 2 in. Image size: 24 x 24 in. Signed, titled, dated and numbered on print verso. Ed. 1/6 From his series, Flights. Artist Statement: "From 35,000 feet you can see the curvature of the Earth, the tops of clouds, brilliant sunrises and sunsets, and the intense blue of the atmosphere as it thins toward outer space. This series started with snapshots taken through airplane windows. I applied an algorithm to convert them into grids of small dots, similar to a half-tone pattern, but different, because the original color values are retained. What remains is a record of light, specifically, the color of atmospheric light. The titles are the airline flight numbers and the time and place where the original snapshot was taken." Stuart Allen (b. 1970, Wichita, Kansas, USA) is a visual artist based in Corrales, New Mexico and San Antonio, Texas. He works in a variety of media, from photography to large-scale steel. At the center of his practice are questions about light, time and human perception. Allen’s work has been included in more than 150 exhibitions in the U.S. and abroad and is found in dozens of public collections including: four U.S. Embassies, UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, and significant museum collections throughout the United States. Allen has completed more than 20 permanent public art projects in California, Texas, Kansas, Missouri and Ontario, Canada. His work has been covered in the New York Times, Boston Globe, Houston Chronicle, San Francisco Chronicle, Forbes, Glasstire and many other journals. Allen studied architecture at Kansas University and graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1993.

Bonnie Edelman "Fade to Medina" Photograph, Scapes Series, 2012

By Bonnie Edelman

Located in New York, NY

Contemporary artist Bonnie Edelman's "Fade to Medina" was photographed in 2012 and and is part of the Sky Scapes Series. As her most recognized collection "Scapes" consists of landscapes, seascapes and skyscapes whose specific forms have been blurred in order to direct viewers’ focus toward colors and compositions. Sublime and abstract, the photographs capture grain fields, sea horizons, and sunsets from around the world. This photograph is being offered as a C-print face-mounted onto 1/8” non glare plexi with a custom maple floating frame (1/2" face x 2" deep with 3/8" gap). It will ship directly from the artist's printmaking studio with a signed certificate of authenticity. About the artist: Bonnie Edelman was born in New York City. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Connecticut College on an academic and athletic scholarship. Having been raised in a family of artists and architects, Bonnie was always creating. Whether it was sculpture, painting, jewelry making and interior design, she has always had an intense need to express herself through creativity. Fashion was an all encompassing self expression so it was because of this idea of materializing thoughts, desires and inspirations that she decided to devote her career to the editorial side of the fashion industry. After an internship at Rolling Stone Magazine and then formally starting her career as the assistant to the Fashion Director at Seventeen Magazine, Bonnie moved through the ranks at Glamour Magazine and MTV. She then settled into the position of Travel Editor at Sports Illustrated, where she navigated the world producing exotic and inspiring photo shoots for the magazine’s annual Swimsuit Issue. It was during this time spent in The Islands of the Maldives, Ecuador, Venezuela and Kenya, to mention a few, while working closely with photographers like Sante D’Orazio, Russell James...
