TRØLLKONUFINGUR MONOLITH STUDY 1 – FAROE ISLANDS – GERALD BERGHAMMER Trøllkonufingur Monolith Study 1 is a black-and-white fine art photograph by Austrian photographer Gerald Berghammer, depicting the iconic Trøllkonufingur sea stack rising from the North Atlantic near Sandavágur on the island of Vágar in the Faroe Islands. The slender rock pinnacle and monumental coastal cliffs create a striking sculptural composition within the remote Faroese seascape. Created using long-exposure photography, the movement of the sea is transformed into a smooth, almost ethereal surface, while low cloud and mist partially obscure the upper cliffs. The monochrome treatment emphasises the contrast between the dark, textured rock formations and the luminous water, while subtle tonal transitions across sea and sky reinforce the photograph’s sense of depth, stillness and isolation. Combining minimalist seascape photography, dramatic North Atlantic geology and a timeless black-and-white aesthetic, the artwork transforms one of the Faroe Islands’ most distinctive coastal landmarks into a powerful study of form, atmosphere and negative space. It is particularly suited to modern, minimalist, Scandinavian and contemporary interiors, bringing tranquillity, monumentality and the raw character of the Faroese landscape to living rooms, offices, hotels and other refined spaces. SILVERFINEART – Analog Roots, Contemporary Vision Vienna, Austria – Gerald Berghammer (born 1975, Austria) is an internationally award-winning photographer whose work is rooted in a lifelong dedication to analog black-and-white photography. Traveling extensively, Berghammer captures fleeting impressions on film, creating images that consciously slow perception and stand in deliberate contrast to today’s fast-paced digital world. During his master studies, analog photography became the central focus of Berghammer’s artistic practice and the subject of his final thesis in 2011. The exceptional quality of this work laid the foundation for SILVERFINEART, a body of work defined by technical precision, aesthetic clarity, and a strong commitment to photographic craftsmanship. In the years that followed, Berghammer continued to refine and deepen his engagement with the medium, pursuing photographic art at the highest technical and artistic level. A defining characteristic of his practice is complete control over the photographic process. All analog negatives were personally developed by the artist in the darkroom. Each image then underwent a rigorous selection process, with only works meeting his uncompromising quality standards included in the final portfolio. In recent years, Berghammer has expanded his artistic toolkit through the use of state-of-the-art medium-format digital technology. This evolution represents not a departure, but a continuation of his established visual language–preserving the discipline, compositional rigor, and aesthetic principles shaped by decades of analog experience. SILVERFINEART embodies the synthesis of classical photographic craftsmanship and contemporary vision. The works are characterized by timeless black-and-white imagery, reduced compositions, and a strong emphasis on atmosphere and form. The portfolio can be viewed online or at the SILVERFINEART Gallery in Vienna, Austria. Gerald Berghammer personally advises collectors in selecting photographic works for private and professional spaces. More available sizes for sale: 15.75 x 15.75 in.
