A native New Yorker, Rose Hartman began her career working for the SoHo Weekly News where her first assignment was covering the 1976 wedding of Papa’s granddaughter Joan Hemingway to restaurateur Jean De Noyer. Bianca Jagger at her 30th Birthday at Studio 54, NYC was the star of the show. The photographs in Magical Glances by Rose Hartman plays with ideas of both pleasure and infamy in a historical context. “A certain joie de vivre, or joy for living, is immediately evident in the work, most of which was shot amidst the decadent landscape of New York City’s nightlife and art world culture of the late 1970s and 1980s.
