BASILICA AND GONDOLA STUDY 1 – VENICE – GERALD BERGHAMMER Basilica and Gondola Study 1 is an analogue black-and-white panoramic fine art photograph by Austrian photographer Gerald Berghammer, capturing traditional Venetian gondolas, wooden mooring poles and historic architecture across the lagoon in Venice, Italy. Created using long exposure, the image softens the movement of the water and boats, contrasting the blurred gondolas with the dark vertical poles and sharply defined skyline beyond. The panoramic composition emphasises rhythm, depth and repetition, while the monochrome treatment reduces the Venetian cityscape to its essential elements of light, form and structure. The mooring poles lead the eye across the luminous water towards the distant basilica and surrounding historic buildings. With its refined tonal range, atmospheric movement and minimalist interpretation of Venice, the photograph transforms a familiar waterfront scene into a timeless study of architecture, water and motion. Its elegant panoramic format and restrained black-and-white aesthetic make it particularly suited to modern, contemporary and minimalist interiors. SILVERFINEART – Analog Roots, Contemporary Vision Vienna, Austria – Gerald Berghammer (born 1975, Austria) is an internationally award-winning photographer whose work is rooted in a lifelong dedication to analog black-and-white photography. Traveling extensively, Berghammer captures fleeting impressions on film, creating images that consciously slow perception and stand in deliberate contrast to today’s fast-paced digital world. During his master studies, analog photography became the central focus of Berghammer’s artistic practice and the subject of his final thesis in 2011. The exceptional quality of this work laid the foundation for SILVERFINEART, a body of work defined by technical precision, aesthetic clarity, and a strong commitment to photographic craftsmanship. In the years that followed, Berghammer continued to refine and deepen his engagement with the medium, pursuing photographic art at the highest technical and artistic level. A defining characteristic of his practice is complete control over the photographic process. All analog negatives were personally developed by the artist in the darkroom. Each image then underwent a rigorous selection process, with only works meeting his uncompromising quality standards included in the final portfolio. In recent years, Berghammer has expanded his artistic toolkit through the use of state-of-the-art medium-format digital technology. This evolution represents not a departure, but a continuation of his established visual language–preserving the discipline, compositional rigor, and aesthetic principles shaped by decades of analog experience. SILVERFINEART embodies the synthesis of classical photographic craftsmanship and contemporary vision. The works are characterized by timeless black-and-white imagery, reduced compositions, and a strong emphasis on atmosphere and form.
