About the Item

A bull explodes from the chute, muscle and momentum colliding in a split second of raw confrontation. Suspended above the animal’s violent arc, the rider clings on with disciplined resolve as dust lifts from the arena floor. In “Rodeo”, David Yarrow captures the razor-thin line between control and chaos that defines the American West’s most visceral sport. The composition is immersive and immediate. Shot from a low vantage point inside the arena, the viewer is placed almost within the dirt, amplifying the scale and force of the charging bull. Behind the rails, a tightly packed crowd leans forward in anticipation — faces animated, hands raised, bodies frozen between gasp and cheer. Yarrow’s monochrome treatment intensifies texture and drama: the taut hide of the bull, the grit beneath its hooves, the weathered timber of the gates, and the heavy sky brooding above. The choreography is meticulous, yet the energy feels untamed. Every element converges on that singular moment of impact — sport elevated into spectacle. Printed at large scale, “Rodeo” reveals extraordinary detail and tonal depth, from flying dust particles to the layered expressions of the onlookers. It is a commanding statement piece that celebrates courage, tradition and the enduring mythology of frontier competition. All prints are limited editions and available in multiple sizes. Each print is produced and personally signed by the artist. Collectors receive an additional certificate of authenticity issued by the gallery. High-end framing can be arranged upon request.

David Yarrow's narrative on "True Grit": "It is integral to my style of animal portraiture to obsess on the lead characteristics of the subject and then look to magnify those characteristics. I always want a Champions League model, not a Third Division player. When I photograph African elephants, for instance, I work in Kenya which boasts the biggest, most magnificent elephants in the world. I would never go to Botswana to photograph an elephant - they are smaller than their East African cousins. With cowboys, I am drawn to the great state of Texas - where the most authentic, uncompromising, working cowboys...
