About the Item

Edition 2/ 11 Each photograph is hand printed on Canson Baryta Paper Signed and editioned by the artist. Available framed and in larger and smaller sizes. Sarah Hadley is a Los Angeles–based interdisciplinary artist who works with photography, collage, and painting to explore the relationship between the female body and interior psychological space. Placing women within environments where beauty and unease coexist, her work reflects on how memory and history shape emotional experience. Born and raised in Boston, Hadley received degrees in art history from Georgetown University and photography from the Corcoran/George Washington University. Her work has appeared in international publications including Le Monde, Elle Italia, Harper’s, L ’Oeil de la Photographie, and Lenscratch, and has been widely exhibited and collected internationally. She received grants from the Illinois Arts Council, the Chicago Artists Foundation, and the California Center for Cultural Innovation, and fellowships from the Ragdale Foundation. Her monograph Lost Venice was published by Damiani in 2020 and is held in many major institutional collections including the Bibliothèque nationale de France, the National Museum of Women in the Arts, the Getty Research Library, the Baltimore Museum of Art, and the Huntington Library. The artist's work has been shown in galleries in Paris and Los Angeles and has been collected worldwide.

This image is printed in an edition of 7, but comes in larger and smaller sizes. Each image is printed on archival paper, signed and numbered. Statement: This image of What I Remember is from Sarah Hadley's series Story Lines, which explores the female interior landscape. The series was inspired by the French New Wave films of the 60’s, which were shot in black and white on the street and which often portrayed the subconscious thoughts and feelings of ordinary women. These photo collages pay homage to the surrealists who first employed the technique of conjoining unrelated images to create startling and thought-provoking connections. Using backdrops...
