Produced with exceptional craftsmanship, the typography was composed by hand at the Imprimerie Nationale de France using the historic “Romain du Roi” typeface, while the lithographs were executed under the expert supervision of Mourlot Freres, ensuring the highest standards of printmaking. As a whole, Regards Sur Paris stands as a testament to the enduring importance of collaboration between writers, artists, printers, and publishers, embodying the intellectual and artistic spirit of modern France. About the Artist: Andre Beaudin (1895–1979) was a French painter, sculptor, and draftsman whose refined synthesis of Cubism, lyrical abstraction, and modern harmony positioned him among the most poetic and sophisticated artists of the 20th century. Born in Mennecy, France, Beaudin studied at the Ecole des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, where he absorbed the structural innovations of early Cubism under the profound influence of Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, while also engaging with the vibrant avant garde community that included Alexander Calder, Alberto Giacometti, Salvador Dali, Joan Miro, Wassily Kandinsky, Marcel Duchamp, and Man Ray. Beaudin’s work evolved from Cubist geometry into a fluid, organic abstraction characterized by rhythmic lines, radiant color, and balanced spatial composition. His paintings and sculptures reveal a lyrical sensitivity structured yet graceful, intellectual yet deeply emotional that distinguished him from both his contemporaries and successors. Working in the thriving postwar Parisian art scene, Beaudin helped bridge the gap between the analytical precision of early modernism and the expressive freedom of mid century abstraction. His art, infused with light and musicality, often drew inspiration from nature birds, flora, and celestial forms rendered in dynamic harmony and his biomorphic forms shared affinities with Miro and Calder, though his tone remained more contemplative and inward. Exhibited internationally at the Salon des Independants, the Venice Biennale, and the Musee National d’Art Moderne, his work garnered critical acclaim for its purity and rhythmic balance. Beaudin’s influence extended to later artists of the Ecole de Paris and the lyrical abstraction movement, including Jean Bazaine, Serge Poliakoff, and Alfred Manessier, who admired his ability to unite geometric clarity with spiritual depth. His works reside in major institutions such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Tate in London, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and remain highly sought after by collectors for their elegance and timeless modernity. His highest auction record was achieved by Composition abstraite (1949), which sold for 97075 USD at Christies, Paris, on June 2, 2021, confirming Andre Beaudin’s enduring legacy as one of the most lyrical, balanced, and visionary modernists of the 20th century.
