Our Lady late 20th century Inscribed verso. Printed icon triptych. Closed: 21 x 15.75 inches Open: 21 x 31.75 inches Medium: printed on panel Provenance: Berkley House, Frome, Somerset; private collection. Condition: in good overall condition, with light wear consistent with age. Description A beautifully decorative twentieth-century printed icon triptych centred on Our Lady of Perpetual Help (Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro), one of the most revered images in Christian devotional art. The Virgin is shown tenderly holding the Christ Child, flanked by two attendant angels carrying the instruments of the Passion, all presented within an elegant folding triptych. The icon is richly coloured, with deep cobalt blue robes, vibrant reds and greens, and luminous gilt backgrounds creating a striking contrast. Ornamental black and gilt borders frame each panel, while the shaped Gothic-inspired cresting lends the piece an impressive architectural presence whether displayed open or closed. The image of Our Lady of Perpetual Help originates from a celebrated Byzantine icon dating to the fifteenth century and has remained one of the most recognisable devotional images in both the Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic traditions. This decorative twentieth-century example faithfully reproduces the traditional iconography, making it both an attractive work of religious art and a meaningful devotional object. A highly decorative and unusual folding triptych, equally suited to display within both traditional and contemporary interiors.
