Etching on hand laid paper. 4 Antique prints, titled: 'Spiegel der Boetvaardigheid en Genade.' - Complete set of four etchings illustrating a 51-page poem inspired by the Biblical story of the Prodigal Son. Image 1. shows a young man receiving his inheritance. The 2. image shows the father standing underneath the gate to his premises, while the son rides away to the left with three servants. The 3. image shows the son as a pig herder kneeling in a landscape at his moment of enlightenment, soon to return to his father.The final image shows the son's joyful return to his father. The text is included with the images. Luke 15:11-31, IconClass 73C864. From "Vervolg der Leerzame Zinnebeelden, Spiegel der Boetvaardigheid en Genade en eenige Stichtelyke Gezangen", by Adriaan Spinneker, published in Haarlem by Jan Bosch, 1758. First and only edition. This is a continuation of Spinniker's 'Leerzaame Zinnebeelden.' (Haarlem, Isaac van der Vinne, 1714, and new-title editions of 1756 and 1757), which contained 50 emblems by Vincent van de Vinne. Artists and Engravers: Made by J.C. Philips after 'driaan Spinneker. Most of the refined plates are by painter and etcher Vincent van der Vinne Jr (1686-1742), although J.C. Philips is given as the etcher of 4 plates in the second part of this book. The author of this work is Adriaan Spinniker (Groningen 1676-1754 Haarlem). He was a preacher with the doopsgezinde gemeente in Amsterdam. He is known for his poetry.
