Vladimir Veličković was among the internationally recognized artists included in the Ediciones Polígrafa exhibition at the Redfern Gallery, London, held from December 4, 1979 to January 31, 1980. Organized in collaboration with the Barcelona-based publisher Polígrafa, the exhibition brought together leading figures in modern and contemporary printmaking, highlighting the medium’s role in advancing postwar artistic expression.
Veličković’s work is distinguished by its intense psychological charge and stark, often unsettling imagery. Associated with the postwar School of Paris, his compositions frequently depict fragmented human and animal forms suspended in ambiguous, desolate spaces. His prints—typically executed as lithographs—translate this dramatic visual language into a graphic format marked by sharp contrasts, dynamic line work, and a heightened sense of tension.
Themes of violence, vulnerability, and existential struggle recur throughout his oeuvre, reflecting both personal and historical undercurrents shaped by the turbulence of the 20th century. In print form, these elements are distilled into compositions that are both immediate and confrontational, emphasizing movement, distortion, and emotional intensity.
Within the Polígrafa exhibition, Veličković’s work contributed to the broader dialogue on figuration and abstraction, presented alongside artists such as Joan Miró, Antoni Tàpies, and Eduardo Chillida, reinforcing the exhibition’s international scope and its emphasis on innovative approaches to modern printmaking.
