About the Item

Horst Janssen — Hand-Signed Poster “München (Galerie Wolfgang Ketterer, Villa Stuck)”, Original Zinc Etching, 1966–67 — Framed Powerful hand-signed exhibition poster by Horst Janssen, created for his 1966/67 show at Galerie Wolfgang Ketterer, Villa Stuck (Munich). Printed as an original zinc etching (Strichätzung) in black on cream paper; edition c. 1,000. Elegantly framed and ready to hang. Striking black-on-cream poster designed by Horst Janssen (1929–1995) for his exhibition at Galerie Wolfgang Ketterer, Villa Stuck, Munich, held 8 Dec 1966 – 15 Jan 1967 (inscribed in the design). Unlike ordinary offset posters, this sheet was produced as an original zinc etching (Strichätzung) and issued in an edition of approx. 1,000; examples are documented by specialist poster dealers and museum collections. The present impression is hand-signed by the artist at lower right. Janssen—one of Germany’s foremost postwar draughtsmen and printmakers—won the Grand Prize for Graphic Art at the 1968 Venice Biennale, following his 1966 Edwin Scharff Prize and major retrospectives across Germany. His posters blend biting wit, virtuoso drawing and bold typography; this Munich sheet stages a long table of grotesque profiles and endlessly multiplying arms toasting with beer steins—a satirical theatre of social ritual, rendered with razor-sharp line and deep blacks. Clarity note for buyers: This is an original artist’s etching used as an exhibition poster (not a later reproduction); hand-signed by Janssen. Framed in a slim black lacquered wooden frame with a warm off-white mount; light age-toning and small handling traces consistent with vintage posters, presenting beautifully overall. Details Artist: Horst Janssen (German, 1929–1995) Title: München (Galerie Wolfgang Ketterer, Villa Stuck) Date / Exhibition: 1966 (designed), show 8.12.1966–15.1.1967, Villa Stuck, Munich. Technique: Original zinc etching / Strichätzung in black on cream wove paper. Edition: ca. 1,000 (documented for this poster). Signature: Hand-signed in pencil lower right (see photos). Printer/Publisher: Often cited as Christians, Hamburg; Galerie Wolfgang Ketterer (publisher). Framing: Black lacquered wooden frame; ready to hang. Condition: Very good vintage condition; minor creases/touches and uniform toning consistent with age. Horst Janssen was a celebrated German draftsman and printmaker known for virtuosic line, caustic self-portraiture and masterful etchings, lithographs and woodcuts. Early recognition came with the Edwin Scharff Prize (1966); he later received the Grand Prize in Graphic Art at the 1968 Venice Biennale and exhibited widely, including documenta VI (1977). His work is held in major museums and a dedicated Horst Janssen Museum in Oldenburg.
