Celebrate the intersection of iconic art and modern advertising with this rare, original 1985 Absolut Vodka poster, immortalized by Andy Warhol’s visionary touch and commissioned as part of the brand’s legendary campaign. Michael Roux commissioned Andy Warhol to create this Absolut Vodka design. This poster served as both an advertising campaign and a display piece by featuring a black bottle (instead of a clear one) in the design to prevent distortion and refraction. Roux is best known for bringing Absolut Vodka into every bar across the United States. Andy Warhol’s signature is clearly printed in the upper right corner of this Absolut Vodka poster. Included is the “Absolut Warhol” tagline in bold letters below the image. The Warhol Absolut posters printed served as a reward to bar owners who promoted Absolut Vodka, which was still somewhat unknown in the 1980s. Jim Dine was one of the original artists that defined American Pop Art in the 1960’s. Like Jasper Johns and Andy Warhol, Dine appropriated quintessential American images and icons. He used these ubiquitous and familiar forms as the basis for bold and colorful compositions that flirted with abstraction. Dine (b. 1935) is one of the only surviving artists from the group of artists that redirected American painting in the 60’s. His most cherished work are variations and explorations of the heart motif. In “8 Hearts / Look” Dine again demonstrates his dynamic use and understanding of color.
