About the Item

"Addresses the challenges of both visiting and becoming a resident of the United States for many people. As it turns out, there are various target criteria that make a person an ideal candidate to immigrate, but most people who might long to fulfill the 'American Dream' are exceptions to the target qualifications, especially considering the attitudes and attempted policies of the current administration. Resident status in the U.S. is hypothetically granted for four main reasons: family ties, employment, status as a refugee, and to promote diversity. In other words, it will most likely be family or business/employment connections that are the most viable route to a U.S. visa considering that refugees and people who would expand diversity seem altogether unwelcome in the U.S. at the moment." -Shepard Fairey Materials Offset lithograph in colors on paper Size 36 × 24 in 91.4 × 61 cm Rarity Open edition Medium Print Condition Print is in pristine condition and has been stored flat since purchase. Shepard Fairey's "Target Exceptions" print offers a poignant reflection on the challenges faced by individuals aspiring to visit or immigrate to the United States. Through this thought-provoking artwork, Fairey delves into the complexities of the immigration process, shedding light on the various target criteria that determine the eligibility of potential candidates. In a world where the "American Dream" beckons as a symbol of hope and opportunity, Fairey's piece reminds us that many deserving individuals are deemed exceptions to the established qualifications, particularly in the context of prevailing attitudes and policies of the current administration. The artwork presents a striking visual featuring Fairey's iconic style, using a blend of powerful imagery and symbolic elements to convey its message. By drawing attention to the dichotomy between the desired dream and the restrictive reality, "Target Exceptions" calls for empathy and understanding towards those affected by such immigration hurdles. Shepard Fairey's reputation as a contemporary artist and graphic designer precedes him. Born on February 15, 1970, in Charleston, South Carolina, Fairey has gained global recognition for his profound influence on modern art and activism. His work has been exhibited worldwide, making a lasting impact on both art enthusiasts and social activists alike. Shepard Fairey's art is rooted in a blend of influences that shape its distinctive character.
