About the Item

Albert Wein is one of America's great sculptors of the modernist period. Like Paul Manship he won the Prix de Rome and he traveled there to study. His early works were in the WPA and the Deco style. He then kept with the times and explored other movements as they came along in New York and California. Wein was deeply impressed by the music of Pablo Casals and met him. This cast has a lovely green patina and demonstrates a slight Cubist approach to the form but with a softened feel that was pre-dominant in the 1950's. His editions are always under 12 but this edition was probably less and this one is numbered 1 of 9. He cast it in Italy at the Tommasi foundry in Pietrasanta. A great bronze for a music room, a living room and its a size that can go on any table. An eye appealing work on all fronts. A book is available on the artist and it accompanies the sculpture.
