About the Item

Marmi 1 - Marble Sculpture, Verona Red Onyx, 2025, Signed 24x16" (60x40cm) MARMI by Andrea Gallotti. In the MARBLE series, Andrea Gallotti extends his long-standing exploration of repetition, time, and presence into the sculptural realm, translating painterly gesture into stone. Each work emerges from a practice in which every action is repeated yet never identical, generating subtle variations that speak to the uniqueness embedded within continuity. Rooted in a simple, almost primordial gesture, Gallotti’s process unfolds through attentive repetition. From one work to the next, differences are barely perceptible yet deeply transformative, revealing a vision shaped by patience, silence, and concentration. In contrast to the accelerated rhythms of contemporary life, MARBLE proposes a meditative pace—an invitation to slow down and to inhabit time differently. Marble, with its millennial stratifications, introduces a geological dimension to Gallotti’s inquiry. Its apparent solidity opens into unexpected lightness as the artist’s gesture becomes the matrix of form. The material does not merely receive the gesture; it responds to it, absorbing rhythm, tension, and movement. In this reciprocal relationship, marble assumes the quality of a living body, suspended between permanence and becoming. The natural veining of each slab, sourced from different parts of the world, functions as more than a signature of the stone. It becomes a metaphor for singular and fragile identities, traces of sedimented life that surface through the artist’s intervention. No two works are alike, affirming Gallotti’s belief that every action is irreducibly unique and gains value precisely through this condition. In MARBLE, gesture does not illustrate an idea, it generates it. Guided by the resistance and response of the material, form arises as an act of attention, an exposure to time and its transformations. Repetition here is never mechanical; it is an exercise in awareness, through which action becomes thought and matter becomes presence. For the viewer and the collector alike, these works are not static objects but experiences that unfold gradually. They invite a silent dialogue, revealing themselves over time and deepening through sustained encounter, tracing a visual constellation that reflects on change, continuity, and the complexity contained within repetition.

The self-taught artist Roberto Perez Crespo, born in 1969 in Cuba and based in Miami, has been working on sculptures for nearly three decades, following his artistic call after abandoning a completed technical education in auto mechanical service. Pérez Crespo's practice moves between modernity and contemporaneity, pursuing his creative impulse from an emotional starting point. His religious approach partly directs these dynamic positions to classic Judeo-Christian sculptural themes such as maternity, the female body, and romantic love. Over the years, his interests have shifted from academic figurative representation toward a stylized abstraction of the human body. Formally he has explored the creation of less defined anthropomorphic forms while displaying a deft ability to work in various marble types. Perez Crespo's talent working in marble is evidenced by his ability to sculpt the stone into endlessly fluid shapes and contours. He is able, instinctively and organically, to materialize and bring to life an anthropological world that blossoms out of his manual skills. Perez Crespo's sculptures can be approached sensuously as tactile provocations that draw viewers into an intense, supple universe. Perez Crespo creates an imaginary ethos with metaphysical forms while taking significant steps toward an organic abstraction. He uses this type of abstraction that retains a solid figurative reference while outsourcing modernist elements from artists such as Henry Moore, Maria Martins...
