About the Item

John Wolfe's Mixed Media Abstract Sculpture, "Untitled Assemblage #S 3-23" brings together wood, steel, ceramic elements, and acrylic paint. The warm colors of the wood and painted ceramic elements soften the feel of the rectilinear arrangement. The shallow depth of the work gives the sculpture a kind of "drawing" quality while the shadows it casts lend a more expansive feel. The heavy, dark wood base anchors all aspects of the work in place. This work is the perfect tabletop piece. It's large enough to command attention, but also subtle in its open framework arrangement. John Wolfe was born in Vernon, Texas August 23, 1947. He attended public school in Davidson, Oklahoma and graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1970 with a degree in Art Education. He completed his M. Ed. at the University of Central Oklahoma in 1976. John taught art in the Midwest City-Del City school system for 35 years and was an adjunct at Rose State College in Midwest City, Oklahoma and Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado. John's work has been exhibited extensively across Oklahoma and the surrounding region. Adept at working in several media including painting, assemblages and sculptural forms, his work often incorporates found objects.
